NSW: Jilted lover jailed for burning ex girlfriend
A jilted lover who condemned his former girlfriend to a life of pain after dousing
her in petrol and setting her alight has been jailed for at least 14 years.
British nurse GABRIELLA MAZZALI suffered burns to 93 per cent of her body when she
was attacked by STEPHEN RAE at her Ashfield flat in Sydney's west in February last year.
Ms MAZZALI, who is 29, has injuries which Judge ANGELA KARPIN in the Parramatta District
Court has described as appalling.
After 13 months in hospital in Australia and England, undergoing numerous operations,
including skin grafts, Ms MAZZALI was finally discharged with severe scarring to her body
and face.
Judge KARPIN says Ms MAZZALI will require a level of care for the rest of her life,
having difficulty in performing simple tasks like tying shoe laces.
RAE, 35, of Creiff, in Perthshire, Scotland, was today sentenced after pleading guilty
to grievous bodily harm with intent to murder Ms MAZZALI.
