UltiSat Introduces Its Managed VSAT Network Service to US Army

UltiSat Inc., a provider of satellite communicationsinfrastructure, services, and teleport facilities, has announced ithas been awarded a contract to support users at US Army nodesthroughout Afghanistan.

Under the terms of the contract, UltiSat reported that itprovides voice over IP (VoIP), Internet, and secure (IPSEC) datatransport services to more than 40 forward operating bases (FOBs)throughout Afghanistan.

Using iDirect's Evolution 5IF hub and single channel per carrier(SCPC) platforms, UltiSat provides turnkey broadband satellite andnetwork services via two satellites through its strategicallylocated hub in Denmark. In addition, the Company noted that itprovides design and engineering of the network and all remote sites,installation, information-technology services, in-theater personnelfor operations and maintenance in Afghanistan, integrated logisticsservice, 24x7 network support and help desk, and in-country trainingat all remote sites.

"The satellite communications provided by UltiSat are key toproviding users at the FOBs with the communications they need tocomplete their missions," said Michael Pollack, VP, marketing andsales, UltiSat. "In addition to Internet and data transmissionservices, we support services to more than 1,000 phones and areproviding more than 4 million VoIP minutes per month so that usersat FOBs in Afghanistan can communicate back to the US and elsewherein the world, despite the lack of local telecommunicationsinfrastructure."

UltiSat enables global coverage through its managed satellitenetwork service, VIPnet, and its supporting ground infrastructure,network design, and systems design and integration services.
